Inclement Weather Policy
In the event of inclement weather, the Tournament Directors will determine if play shall be suspended. All information regarding rain plans will promptly be posted to the rain phone line at 202.369.3868.
Temporary Weather Suspension
Once play is called, the official time will be posted and all ongoing outdoor matches will be stopped. Indoor matches will continue without interruption. ALL players must confirm and record scores (including sets, games, points, and last person serving) with the desk. Players shall keep tennis balls with which they were playing and shall be reused once play resumes. Players shall remain on-site until further instruction is provided.
Severe Weather Suspension
In the event that inclement weather continues and the National Weather Service forecasts do not indicate a break, the Tournament Directors will determine if outdoor play shall resume at alternate locations or be suspended for the entire day. If play resumes at alternate sites, the Tournament Directors will direct players to which locations they shall report and will determine the resumed start time. Players will be expected to arrive at the alternate location by the designated time. Every effort will be made to provide all players with detailed information regarding alternate site location, driving directions, and official resumed time of play. However, GLTA guidelines regarding late-arriving players and/or no-shows shall be strictly enforced. Penalties include loss of toss, loss of games, and/or default. The tournament organizers are not responsible for unforeseen traffic delays, confusion involving driving directions, and/or misunderstandings with resumed starting times.
Once Play Resumes
On-going matches that were suspended shall be placed on the first available courts. Afterward, site coordinators shall make every effort in assigning courts according to the original schedule. Five minute warm-ups and immediate exiting of courts upon match completion shall be strictly enforced to minimize the extent of the weather delay. At alternate locations, players shall be expected to arrive by the newly designated times and remain on-site until further instructions may be provided by the site coordinator. Players who fail to appear on time and/or are not present when their matches are called will be subject to GLTA guidelines regarding delay of game and defaults.
Scoring
All effort will be made to have scoring remain the same for all matches in the rounds that were on the court at the time of suspension. The third set may be reduced to a single 12-point tiebreaker if no match in that Division's round has started a third set. No-Ad scoring may be implemented for the second and third sets if no match in that Division's round has started a second set. The site coordinator will determine the scoring option for each round of each Division before any match in that round is put onto the court. All matches in a Division’s round must be played under the same format. All effort will be made to keep scoring consistent across the different divisions' same rounds that are at the same site (i.e. having all the semi-finals at one site use the same scoring). But the scoring options for each site will be determined by that site's court availability.
GLTA tournament rules (published in April, 2003) will be observed with regards to divisions, seedings, and tournament play.
